Keep Swimming, Little Vaquita!

Vaquita porpoise mother and calf, depicted alive and underwater by wildlife artist Amber Marine.

A victory this week in the fight to save the critically endangered vaquita porpoise - the gillnet ban in the vaquita's range has been made permanent!

The fight for survival is not over, strict enforcement of this law is required to give the remaining 60 vaquitas a fighting chance. Recovery could take decades. It's all up to us humans. Let's keep raising awareness and keep the story of the little vaquita marina in the spotlight! 💙

You can learn more about the vaquita (and adopt one! 😍) at Porpoise.org/Save-the-Vaquita/ Every adoption supports research, education, and the awareness campaign for the vaquita!

The Art:

This is "Treacherous Waters," a digital painting that I completed in fall of 2015. Vaquitas are so very rare and there are so few pictures of them alive (and zero pictures of them underwater) which is what inspired me to paint this piece - to let the viewer see and empathize with them in their dangerous home realm.
